Climate & Art Special Lectures

In conjunction with the seasonal King Tides, The City of Delray Beach and the Office of Sustainability organizes climate education outreach events to raise awareness about the impacts of climate changes and the need to proactively adapt. This weekend invites organizations from around the city to be involved in multiple special lectures revolving around climate crisis. As a coastal city within a larger coastal area, Delray Beach hopes to share the realities of the climate crisis and ultimately how it can directly affect us and the local neighborhoods in the future. 12PM | Habitat Restoration – Institute for Regional Conservation with George Gann
Native ecosystems in cities are resources to be treasured, protected, and restored. They are also key to preventing extinctions of native plants and animals in the face of climate
change. Learn how Delray Beach is restoring native habitats for the future and how you too can restore nature at home or work. Healthy urban ecosystems are resilient urban ecosystems that will provide myriad ecosystem services for people and nature far into the future.
12:30PM | Green Building Ordinance – Office of Sustainability and Resilience with Kent Edwards
The City of Delray Beach passed a green building ordinance, which goes into effect on Nov 1, 2023. This presentation will review the features of the City’s ordinance, and some characteristics and benefits of green buildings.

1:30PM | Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Climate Action Plan – Office of Sustainability and Resilience
Greenhouse gas emissions are driving climate change, so taking steps to reduce these emissions is critical. The City completed a Greenhouse Gas Inventory last year, an important first step to identify emission sources. The findings of the Inventory will be presented, along with the reduction goals that the City has adopted.
