Art Lab | Pure Bookbinding
July 27, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 2:30 pm
$120
This workshop will provide you with some solid bookbinding know-how as you learn the techniques behind a series of non-adhesive binding structures. Led by John Cutrone.
Beginning with the basic yet incredibly useful Single Signature Pamphlet Stitch, students will progress to a Double-Signature Pamphlet, a Decorative Stitch Binding, followed by one or two variations of Japanese stab bindings (as time allows).
One of the books students will bind and take home is a limited edition story called “Putting Up Mangoes”. “Putting Up Mangoes” is a letterpress printed from handset metal types by the instructor. It also includes a linoleum cut by Seth Thompson, linoleum cut artist.
The common element throughout the workshop? These are all book types that require simple materials: paper and thread and nothing more. It is bookbinding in its purest form.
All levels; no prior experience in bookbinding is necessary.
