In our generally chaotic world, there exists an enchanting and often overlooked palette – the little things that quietly weave the fabric of our existence. In this body of work, Colleen Thompson explores the details of everyday moments through vibrant still-life paintings that live in the interplay between observation and introspection. The saturated renderings of objects, including lush fruit and sticky candy, delve into the realm of the ordinary and elevate the seemingly insignificant to the pedestal of appreciation and wonder. With the close-up compositions, Thompson aims to awaken a sense of mindfulness, urging us to embrace the present moment and cherish the splendor and intimate details of the “now.” The Little Things invites us to rekindle our childlike wonder as we pause and find solace in often overlooked and beauty in the simplest things.
