Of Nature and Spirit 
Featuring the work of Tom De Vita, Kathleen Kinkopf, Amarelle Kukići, Hal Yaskulka

Of Nature and Spirit brings together four Florida-based artists whose vivid figurative paintings and sculptures celebrate the surreal. While each artist boasts a unique visual narrative in their work, there is a kinship among them in their depictions of nature, symbols, and unusual landscapes. Throughout the exhibition, figures are seen intertwined both physically and spiritually with flora and fauna.

Tom De Vita’s paintings are recognized by bold tones and dark atmospheric compositions, often situating elements from land, sea, and sky together. Hal Yaskulka’s paintings provide ethereal and ungrounded scenes of female figures among delicate creatures. A connection between animals and humans is seen clearly in Amarelle Kukići’s monochrome sculptures. Kathleen Kinkopf’s colorful paintings of intricate flowers and lush landscapes use layering to create multi-dimensional figurative scenes.

Through surreal imagery and hyper realistic details, Of Nature and Spirit explores the whimsy and mystery of nature and our relationship to it, whether in connection or in conflict. Each piece encourages extended observation as our imagination interprets the seemingly magical realms and stories within the work, contemplating where we may fit in our own worlds.

Tom De Vita

Tom De Vita was born in Queens, New York, in 1970, and resides in Pembroke Pines, Florida. De Vita received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture, from St. John’s University, in New York, and his Master of Fine Arts from Miami International University of Art & Design, in Miami, Florida. De Vita was a former professor of art at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Barry University, and Broward College, teaching painting, drawing, and design. Currently, De Vita operates De Vita Academy of Art, in Davie, Florida, with his wife, also an artist and professor, teaching traditional painting, drawing, and sculpture. His life has been devoted to developing paintings, portraits, illustrations, and murals for numerous businesses, residences, and private collectors. He exhibits locally and nationally, and is the recipient of the Duane Hanson Allied Artist Fellowship and was The Artist in Residence for the City of Pembroke Pines, for 2014-2015.

Kathleen Kinkopf

Kathleen Kinkopf’s work has been exhibited in dozens of solo and group gallery exhibitions nationally and internationally, from Santa Fe to South Korea. Her work is in private as well as public, government, and corporate collections, and has been recognized and awarded by numerous organizations such as American Women Artists, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, The Albuquerque Museum, The Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra, Alliance for the Arts, BIG Arts and featured in publications, such as ARTNews, Artist’s Magazine, American Art Collector Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, 100 Artist Studios of the Southwest, Art Horse Magazine, Create!, and Art Seen Magazine, to name a few. She published her first book, Inhabiting Bliss, in 2021. After 2 decades in New Mexico, Kathleen relocated her home and studio to SW Florida where she has found new inspiration for her work in a world of water, giant birds, thunderstorms, reptiles, and the magic and mystery of sea life. Amarelle Kukici

Amarelle Kukići is a self-taught artist who favors the mediums of oil paint and Papier-mâché. Merging the familiar with visions of the surreal, she creates dreamlike figurative compositions that attempt to explore the unease of modernity and our displacement from the natural world.

Hal Yaskulka

Hal Yaskulka was born in Brooklyn, New York.  His one man shows include the West Valley Art Museum, in Sun City Arizona, the San Marino Gallery in Pasadena, Ca., Harris Meisel Gallery in Santa Barbara, Ca., Bruchion Gallery in West Los Angeles, Stanley’s Gallery in the San Fernando Valley, Agape Art Gallery in Culver City and Dassen Gallery, Beverly Hills, California. He has received an award for the International Society of Acrylic Painters, best in show at the Beverly Hill’s “Affaire in the Gardens” which was a competition of over 240 artists. Along with his various group exhibitions throughout the United States he has also been published in Northlight Publications (“Acrylic Works”), Watson & Guptill Publications and Rizzoli Publishing. (Both Ivy Press Limited.) His commissioned works include paintings and drawings which are featured in the award winning film “The Departed”, “Rush Hour”, “Maiden Heist”, “Contraband” (with actor Mark Walberg), TV show “Suburgatory”,  and soon to be released , ”Lovelace”.

He has also done many Portraits , Figurative works, Abstract works and Landscapes for private collections and Hollywood Films throughout the United States. In addition Mr. Yaskulka has painted Murals for Disney and many casinos in Las Vegas, Record labels such as: Virgin Records, Capitol Records, Geffen Records, Rhino Records, Atlantic Records, Warner Brothers, Electra, Reprise, CBS, Columbia EMI, Polygram, Motown and MCA. Mr. Yaskulka teaches painting and drawing classes privately and at the Kline Academy in the Los Angeles area. He has also taught at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His own course of study was at New York’s School of Visual Arts. And 4 years of study with a private mentor, Jan Seather, learning Old Master and Modern techniques.
