SCULPTURAL PAINTING: Texture, Light, and Dimension 2-Day

December 16 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm

REGISTER HERE

Wednesday, December 16 & Thursday, December 17
10:30am – 3pm | No makeup dates

Discover the exciting possibilities of sculptural painting in this hands-on, two-day workshop where paint meets relief and simple geometric forms become striking works of art.

Working with modeling paste, palette knives, masking tape, and texturing tools, you’ll experiment with raised lines, bold shapes, and dimensional surfaces to create a contemporary relief painting with depth, rhythm, and visual impact on an 18” x 24” wood panel.

Explore how texture catches the light, how shadows transform a surface, and how subtle tonal shifts bring geometric compositions to life. Through playful experimentation and guided instruction, you’ll learn to build dimension, balance positive and negative space, and turn a flat surface into a richly tactile artwork with the sophistication of neutral color.

No two surfaces are alike. Let texture lead the way and discover the beauty of texture, the quiet drama of neutrals, and the art of creating dimension through light and shadow.

🎨 All levels welcome.

🖌️ All supplies included.

🥪 Bring a lunch for fuel.

🌸 Bring a smock and vinyl gloves-and be ready to create with a magic up your sleeve!

Instructor Information:

Renée Rey is a New York artist who has called Delray Beach, Florida home for the past four years. With more than 10 years of experience teaching art, she brings a broad range of experience—and a passion for experimentation—to the classroom.

Rey has taught classical, Impressionist, and abstract drawing; live figure drawing; portraiture; acrylic and oil painting; mixed media; and collage. Her approach combines strong foundational skills with experimentation, encouraging students to develop their own visual language while discovering new ways to see and make.

Her background is equally interdisciplinary. Rey studied Interior Architecture and Drawing & Painting at Parsons School of Design, and continued her studies in drawing, painting, and art history at SUNY Albany and Palm Beach State College. She holds an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MA in Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York.

A practicing artist for more than 30 years, Rey brings the perspective of a working artist into every class. Her goal is simple: to give students the skills, confidence, and freedom to make their own work—and have a good time doing it.
