SUMMARY:Unfamiliar Languages | Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Unfamiliar Languages\nSolo Exhibition by Lisa MacNamara\nSeptember 4 – October 31\, 2026 (Exhibition Extended to Saturday\, November 7th!)\nBack Room Gallery\nJoin the artist for an Open Artist Forum on October 24th\, 1 – 4pm. More information\nThe abstracted human figure serves as the central focus of Lisa’s work\, rendered as layered\, molecular-like forms shaped by extensive research into the mind–body connection. Grounded in biology and psychology\, the artist explores how the human body stores and reveals emotional history. The material palette in the exhibition consists of reclaimed fabrics\, packing remnants\, metal\, and fiber materials. These everyday objects are transformed into vessel-like forms\, symbolizing the physical manifestation of impactful life’s events and echoing the textures of scars and healing. This perspective became deeply personal following their brother’s prolonged coma and passing— a liminal state of a living body with an unreachable mind that profoundly reshaped the artist’s understanding of consciousness\, trauma\, and the body’s emotional imprint. Through detailed photography\, in the video\, an X-ray-like effect is introduced\, shifting the work from mere decoration to a diagnostic tool that reinforces the idea of the body as a record-keeper. The creative process reflects the internal workings of being human. Through repetitive hand-sewing\, each stitch that pierces the fiber’s surface repairs emotional fractures and articulates personal chronicles.  evokes the felted layers of skin and cellular structures. By translating flat materials into three-dimensional forms\, the artist creates spaces to hold intangible emotional narratives\, offering a subtle visual interpretation of vulnerability\, resilience\, and the human condition. \nThe Cloak Series explores the tension in outer layers—garments worn as protection or as burdens carrying personal and historical weight. Fabric patterns echo repetitive cycles\, while rigid seams and stitching embody fixed habits that act as traps. The concept of wearing one’s heart on a sleeve makes vulnerability visible\, and the choice of materials represents biological systems\, rendering every scar and crease as a physical memory. Together\, these elements allow the series to hold the paradox that individuals can be both broken and whole\, hidden and exposed\, integrating garments and biosystems as fragile\, marked\, adaptable\, and capable of transformation. This exhibition maps the internal landscape\, both physical and emotional\, through a multisensory experience engaging sight\, sound\, touch\, and the viewer’s visceral sense. At the heart of the experience is a collaborative video with Brazilian artist Peu Teles. Composed of detailed photography\, the piece is layered with an auditory landscape: tactile sounds of paper mimic fracturing histories\, while a rhythmic\, pulsing breath signifies the emergence of new interpretations. Exploration extends to gallery walls through interactive thread designs\, inviting physical connections to both the process and other participants. By weaving sensory elements together\, the work evokes a somatic response\, transforming the gallery into a surface for active dialogue on vulnerability\, resilience\, and the human condition. \n  \nAbout the Artist \n\nLisa MacNamara’s artistic journey began with inspiration from human stories and photojournalism in Life and Look magazines. She studied black-and-white photography through an apprenticeship\, developing a strong foundation in traditional darkroom techniques and photographic processes before college where the focus was on biology\, physical sciences\, and psychology before moving to decorative arts\, where she thrived in Denver\, CO\, her handcrafted finishes appeared in leading design centers\, New York City’s A&D Building\, and Florida’s DCOTA in Dania Beach. MacNamara received academic honors and scholarships in dual majors in painting and sculpture at Arizona State University\, followed by studies in Civitella\, Italy. She completed her MFA in Interdisciplinary Studio Arts at Florida Atlantic University\, supported by a full teaching assistantship and academic grants. MacNamara uses large-scale mixed-media and sculptural installations\, creating cellular imagery to capture life’s emotional imprints\, exploring the mind-body connection. Her art is exhibited in the US and internationally and held in private collections. Her practice continues to honor individual narratives\, revealing shared threads in the human condition.

SUMMARY:Interstitial | Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:INTERSTITIAL: FAU MFA Candidate Showcase\nOpening October 2nd\, 6 – 9pm and on view through November 28\, 2026.\nParticipating artists | Hye Young An\, Sarah E. Huang\, Raha Khosravi\, Pinar Sinka\, Jackson Grey Tucker\, Anna Ruby Whitmire \nINTERSTITIAL showcases six second-year MFA candidates from Florida Atlantic University working across printmaking\, book arts\, photography\, painting\, performance\, and sculpture. FAU’s MFA program emphasizes this interdisciplinary development–conceptual\, aesthetic\, technical\, and professional- with this exhibition presenting work made during their first year (out of three) in the program. \n“Interstitial” refers to the small\, narrow gaps between things: cracks\, intervals of time; it is the interstices that occur between objects or time periods. Curator\, Sarah E. Huang\, borrowed this term because it names where the students find themselves at their midpoint within the program. And although they are almost halfway through\, exhibiting together now allows viewers to trace the threads of the artists’ distinct\, idiosyncratic practices\, which will (and have) only become clearer through our individual studio and parallel practices. \nAs Huang looked more closely at the works her colleagues produced over the last year\, she found that they share a similar preoccupation with “betweenness.” Meaning\, each artist represented is working to reconcile some sort of dichotomy: material and immaterial\, process and object\, inner life and outer life. INTERSTITIAL is ultimately a record of these reconciliations\, albeit in process. \n

SUMMARY:Mimic the Masters Acrylic Painting
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\n*Please don’t wait to register! Workshops that do not meet the minimum number of students 3 days prior to the session date will be canceled or rescheduled. Signing up early helps us ensure that the workshop can take place. Thank you! \nMimic the Masters Acrylic Painting\nLed by Ma Nong \nJoin Resident Artist and instructor Ma Nong for this workshop where you’ll use acrylic paint on canvas to mimic the artwork of your favorite master artists! Whether you love portraits\, landscapes\, or florals\, this class offers a hands-on experience to explore the colors\, brush strokes\, marks\, and composition techniques that define the greats. \nFeel free to bring a picture you’d like to paint or borrow an inspiring art book from the front desk to find your perfect subject. \nAll materials are provided. \nInstructor Biography \nMa Nong \nAs a Taiwanese born in Korea\, I moved to South Florida in 2013. We encountered strangeness and difference at every turn\, but the sunlight\, sky\, and green nature of the subtropical culture always gave me warm inspiration. I have lived in South Florida for a decade now compressing and symbolizing this into color-rich cubes representing home\, the strangeness of being different from my native country\, and the process of adapting. Gradually\, I developed a series of portraits exploring the signifiers of human nature. Humanoid figures are portrayed as children’s dolls with exaggerated heads and smaller torsos and are centered and anchored as if trying to root themselves into the frame. They reflect child-like vulnerability where the feelings of dread\, loneliness\, and weakness to the familiar/unfamiliar world are present. Dimensional crystalline shapes simultaneously create and break the form; symbolizing complex units that both comprise and undermine identity. Color is bold and convincing\, resembling that of nationality\, yet it doesn’t reveal the true origin of the figure. In this process of seeing and feeling all my surrounding environments\, large puzzles are put together one by one\, and these experiences are fused and harmonized in one complete work. \n** Please note\, Refunds will be processed only if requested 72+ hours prior to scheduled workshop date/time. SUMMARY:Alcohol Ink Floral Bouquets on Large Cardstock
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nJoin us for an exciting alcohol ink workshop and discover the beauty of this fascinating vivid fluid art. These inks have the unique ability to dry rapidly and repeatedly revitalize while maintaining their vibrant color. \nIn this workshop students will learn basic and advanced techniques to manipulate and paint with this medium. Following a practice piece\, students will create their one-of-a kind floral bouquet on an 8 x 10 or larger cardstock. Demonstrations and individual attention will be provided by the artist to create a variety of flowers\, stems and leaves. All levels welcome and supplies provided. \nWhat is Alcohol Ink? \nAlcohol ink is a fluid art. The inks are dye-based and extremely vibrant due to heavy pigmentation. The inks glide freely on non-porous surfaces and are easily manipulated with various techniques such as blowing\, stamping or brushing. Another unique quality of alcohol ink is that the dried ink can be “revived” when coming into contact with fresh ink or blending solution\, allowing for further process of the design. Alcohol ink is a fun and unique medium\, allowing for creative freedom. \nAbout the teaching artist: \nDebra L. Snyder\, Fine Artist/Potter/Instructor \nI began my formal art education at Parsons School of Art & Design in New York and years later studied acrylic and watercolor painting with renowned artists at the Woodstock School of Art. My favorite theme for landscapes and seascapes was inspired while living at the Jersey Shore\, the Catskill Mountains and the coastal areas of New England. My first encounter with alcohol ink occurred ten years ago while traveling in Arizona. I was immediately intrigued by this fluid art\, the brilliance of the pigment and its versatility. Unlike acrylic or watercolor painting\, alcohol ink allows for a freedom of expression which I find unique and challenging. I have been practicing as an alcohol ink artist since then and continue to discover new techniques and applications with this exciting medium. \nClay art has also been one of my passions and has kept me captivated for twenty years now. I am continually improving and exploring throwing techniques and I find the rewards of throwing clay immeasurable. \nwww.artpartyexpress.com for more information.
